ABSTRACT
The morphology of larval stages of Diptera (Insecta) is little known, especially in the case of Sarcophagidae family larvae. Interest in sarcophagid larvae studies has increased with the step forward of forensic entomology, where they are considered potential indicators of the time of death. Forensic studies show Peckia (Peckia) chrysostoma as one of the most important species in the Neotropical region. However, taxonomic identification of larvae is difficult due to the lack of knowledge of its morphology and useful taxonomic characters for identify them. Sealed microscope slides of first and second instar larvae were performed. The pseudocephalon, cephalopharyngeal skeleton, spinules, spiracular atrium and the posterior spiracles were studied. Morphological characteristics of larval instars I and II were described and illustrated.

ABSTRACT
For the Phrynosoma orbiculare complex six subspecies have been described that are distributed from the north to the southeast of the Mexican Plateau. Since, the description of the group, the taxonomic status of the subspecies of P. orbiculare has been debated. The objective of this study was to assess the morphological variation of the subspecies described; using analysis of linear and geometric morphometrics combined with principal component analysis and canonical correlation. The linear morphometric analysis showed a clear definition, but with geometric morphometrics, using canonical variance analysis, significant differences were obtained for three subspecies, P. o. orientale, P. o. durangoensis and P. o. boucardi. The thin plate spline showed that main deformation is in the snout and horns combined. Phrynosoma. o. orientale is distributed in the Sierra Madre Oriental and P. o. durangoensis in the Sierra Madre Occidental. Both subspecies are isolated by the Central Mexican Plateu and diverged as a result of Neogene vicariance. So if subspecies are isolated can be considered as separate entities since there is no gene flow between them.

ABSTRACT
We conducted a herpetofaunal study from November 2009 to July 2010 on the ranches El Herradero and San Jose de los Leones, both in the municipality of Soto la Marina, in the centraleastern part of the state of Tamaulipas, northeastern Mexico. Their location corresponds to a peninsula surrounded by the Laguna Madre. The objectives were to conduct a herpetological inventory and to determine the distribution of the species in the plant communities and the status of each species following the criteria of the NOM-059-SEMARNAT-2010. The information will be useful in delineating an area to set aside for conservation easement for the species. We followed the transect method described by Campbell & Christman (1982). We recorded 17 species: one anuran, one crocodile, six turtles, three lizards and six snakes. Of these, eight are new records for the municipality of Soto la Marina, 10 species are at risk, six are of special concern, three are threatened, and one is endangered. The ranches contain 34.69% of the herpetofauna species present in the municipality.

ABSTRACT
This paper examines the use of different microhabitats throughout the day, year, by sex, by age, at different intervals of altitude and its implications for thermoregulation and conservation. Overall 49.5% of the lizards used trees, 32.62% rocks and less often 2.3% shrubs (χ2 = 216.06, gl 3, p < 0.05). The analysis of microhabitat used by sex revealed significant differences among young, female, and male (χ2 = 7.24, gl 6, p < 0.05). The young females most often used rocks, while subadults and adults preferred to use trees (χ2 = 13.38, gl 6, p < 0.05). In males, subadults and young used rocks, and adults trees (χ2 = 15.22, gl 4, p < 0.05).The altitudinal distribution has an effect on habitat use; in the altitudinal range of 800 to 1,100 m these lizards have a tendency to be more arboreal, and between 1,100 and 1,400 m more frequently used rocks (χ2 = 36.21, gl 6, p < 0.05). In the dry season there was a significant difference in the use of microhabitats between 9:00 and 14:00 hours, with the highest number of sightings on trees and rocks. In the rainy season there was no significant difference in the analysis of microhabitat use over the hours of the day. The average body temperature was 33.52 °C (22.0-39.0 ± 2.9). There were no significant differences in body temperature of lizards in different microhabitats. Cloacal temperatures in all microhabitats were 2 °C and 3 °C higher than air temperatures and substrate. Most sightings were between 10:00 and 15:00 hours so this species is considered a diurnal lizard showing thigmothermy and heliothermy. There were significant differences (F1,414 = 5.0918, p = 0.024561) in the lizard cloacal temperatures between the rainy (33.2 °C ± 3.17, n = 215) and dry seasons (34.2 °C ± 5.4, n = 201). Trees are important for thermoregulation in this species; however, even though these lizards could live in deforested areas, they might encounter thermoregulatory difficulties due to reduced periods of activity.

ABSTRACT
Nesting is a part of the reproductive cycle of crocodiles with the greatest impact on the survival of the species, so the objective of this study was to describe ecological aspects of the American crocodile (Crocodylus acutus)nesting off the coast of Oaxaca, Mexico Nine nests from two localities (La Ventanilla n= 6; Palma sola n = 3) were evaluated. Field records included oviposition and hatching dates, external (distance from the center of the nest to the nearest tree and water’s edge, canopy cover) and internal (depth of the top of the nest, depth and width of the eggs chamber, humidity and pH of the top eggs chamber) nest measurements and eggs characteristics (number, fertility, length, width and weight). A Mann-Whitney test was used to compare internal and external nest variables clutches fertility and clutch size between nesting sites. A nested linear model was used to compare mean values of width, length and weight of the eggs between nesting sites. External nest variables were not significantly different (p>0.05). For inside variables, we observed only one significant difference (p =0.04), for the mean pH at the top of the nest (6.71 vs 6.01). For egg´s characteristics, means of width (4.60 vs 4.84), length (7.54 vs 7.66 cm) and weight (95.4 vs 104.4 g) of the eggs were significantly different between nesting sites. This study brings first data on nesting ecology of the American crocodile in Oaxaca and results obtained suggest a good reproductive status in the region. However, it is needed several years of data to increment the sample size and confirm the specie reproductive status.

ABSTRACT
A previously unknown species of dung beetle is described, related to a Coprinisphaeridae ichnofossils. Its discovery demonstrates that such structures really are fossil nests of Scarabaeinae beetles. The taxonomic and phylogenetic relationships of the new species are discussed, as well as some hypotheses about the biogeographical history of the Phanaeus chalcomelas species group to which the fossil species is assigned. A preliminary version of both the group’s track and Steiner’s areal tree is represented and compared to the phylogenetic and biographic hypotheses of recent literature.

ABSTRACT
A device that uses fluorescent powder to automatically mark large numbers of honey bees provides a good method to distinguish focal colony foragers from foragers of other colonies. However, when humidity is high, the powder readily forms pellets that cannot pass through the mesh and marking is diminished. We present here an apparatus to mass-mark honeybees with liquid paint. We demonstrate that this low-cost device is a highly efficient method to mark honeybees and does not produce any observable mortality on test foragers or impairing flight ability.

ABSTRACT
A Survey to known the carrion beetles associated to corpses was done in an urban forest from Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. A single piglet carcass was sampled. Four species were collected Dichotomius amplicollis (Harold, 1869) (Scarabaeidae), Nicrophorus olidus Matthews, 1888 (Silphidae), Omorgus rubricans Robinson, 1946, and Trox spinulosus dentibius Robinson, 1940 (Trogidae), the last one as the most abundant species (123 specimens). Highest abundance of trogids was unusual for these kinds of studies, so more fieldwork needs to be done to explain these data.
